New Construction Plumbing
Plumbing for New Residential & Commercial Construction
New construction plumbing is a coordination discipline as much as it is a plumbing discipline. The plumber who roughs in supply and waste lines before drywall goes up must work from architectural drawings, coordinate with HVAC and electrical trades for chase and penetration locations, and build a system that will pass inspection at every phase gate. Putman & Sons has been executing new construction plumbing since 1985 — for both residential custom homes and commercial buildings.
Unlike service plumbing (fixing what exists), new construction plumbing requires the plumber to make design decisions that will affect the building's performance for decades. Pipe sizing, fixture placement, venting strategy, and material selection are all committed during rough-in. A mistake at this stage is not a repair bill — it is a wall tear-out.
Multi-Phase Project Coordination
New construction plumbing touches three distinct phases of the build process, and Putman & Sons staffs and schedules for each independently:
Underground / Pre-Slab
Waste and vent piping installed below grade or under slab before concrete is poured. This work must be tested and inspected before it becomes permanently inaccessible. We perform camera inspections of underground lines before backfill to document slope, joint integrity, and alignment.
Rough-In
Supply, waste, and vent piping installed within wall cavities, floor systems, and chases. Rough-in work is scheduled in coordination with framing completion and ahead of insulation and drywall. Each rough-in is tested to applicable code pressure requirements and presented for municipal inspection.
Trim-Out / Final
Fixture installation, water heater connection, appliance hookups, and final system testing. Trim-out is scheduled after painting and flooring to prevent damage to finished surfaces. Final inspection verifies every fixture, every connection, and every shutoff valve before occupancy.
What Sets Our New Construction Work Apart
On residential projects, we pre-fabricate manifold assemblies and test-fit fixture locations against architectural plans before the first pipe enters the building. This catches discrepancies between the plumbing plan and the as-built framing before they become change orders. On commercial projects, we maintain a coordinated BIM-level awareness of other trades' penetration schedules to avoid conflicts in shared chases and ceiling plenums.
